As artificial intelligence (AI) continues to evolve at an unprecedented pace, museums face a critical challenge: how to strategically and effectively integrate AI into their works. This presentation examines AI’s transformative potential in the cultural sector, emphasizing its role in fostering sustainability and innovation. AI is already reshaping museums by supporting creative practices, advancing conservation, and enabling data-driven heritage analysis. Digital collections, often underutilized, hold vast historical and aesthetic value, serving as inspiration for artists and researchers. Moreover, AI is redefining visitor engagement through personalized, interactive, and immersive experiences. For museums, AI has evolved from a novel innovation to a significant operational tool. Museologists now actively explore its applications in preservation, exhibition design, education, and research. With technologies like Computer Vision (CV), Natural Language Processing (NLP), and sound analysis, AI enables museums to automate conservation efforts, optimize visitor experiences, and expand accessibility. Artificial Intelligence also supports heritage preservation through digital reconstructions of damaged or incomplete artifacts. AI aids in the creation of virtual 3D models that can serve as both research tools and a form of protection for heritage in the event of natural disasters or armed conflicts. These models ensure that even inaccessible or destroyed resources can be studied, shared, and reconstructed in the future. Ultimately, this presentation seeks to address a question: to what extent can AI support museums in navigating crises, and in what specific ways? By examining AI’s potential across various institutional contexts, this presentation will explore how museums might use AI to support adaptability, foster innovation, and enhance resilience in times of uncertainty.
